This task explains the effect of creating openings on
stiffeners. |
1. |
With your 3D session open, determine where you want to create the
opening.
2. |
Click the
Opening button to
display the Opening dialog box. Select the appropriate options
to create an opening. In the given example, an opening is created
on a deck, which supports longitudinal stiffeners 123 and 124.
In Structure Detail Design, the
opening splits each of the stiffeners into two child stiffeners.
In Structure Functional Design,
the opening does not split the stiffeners into more child stiffeners.
The geometry of the child stiffener is interrupted by the opening and it
becomes multi-domain.

Organizing Openings
Stiffeners have a parent/child
organization. Each stiffener object has a child object. The
SuperStiffenersSet contains all the stiffeners on one plate and the
StiffenersSet contains all the child stiffeners of one stiffener. There
is a a separate StiffenerSet for each stiffener. The OpeningSet contains
all the openings on a plate. In SDD, after an opening is created, the
stiffener object is further split into more child or split stiffeners.

In SFD, creating an opening
doesn't change the number of stiffeners. The stiffeners are not split
into more child stiffeners.
